Biking Taiwan: Linkou-林口 to Yongan Harbor-永安漁港

by Michael Cannon on May 30, 2009 in Biking

Yongan Harbor restaurants This morning, I headed out with three local friends at 8 AM for the Saturday Linkou-林口 Giant shop bike ride to Yongan Harbor-永安漁港, 49 kilometers away.

We went cruising quickly down road 106, topping 50 kph, and then turned onto highway 15 south past Taoyuan International Airport and then onto Yongan Harbor-永安漁港. With the tailwind, we averaged 22 kph down for the 49 kilometers. After eating some squid, green onion and fish balls and washing it down with fresh coconut juice at Yongan Harbor-永安漁港, we turned around and averaged 18 kph coming up.

The slow down coming back was due to an annoying headwind, getting really saddle at 76 kilometers and 3 kilometers of going up.  The ride back up 106 from sea level to the Linkou plateau was quite a bit of fun especially when big’ol me, steam engine passes skinny locals pedaling like mad up hill.

At the end, it was 98 kilometers of good riding to which I added 3 more kilometers while getting lunch so I hit that magic 100 number. I’d do the ride again, but hopefully, I’ll be used to the new saddle and would like to be a little fresher for coming up 106.
