Saturday morning at 7 AM, I went biking with the local Linkou Giant shop riders from Linkou to a little above the National Palace Museum in Taipei. The weather was cool, but no rain dripped on us as we shakily started off down 108 to Guandou Bridge.
After crossing over Guandou Bridge between Bali, Wugu and Danshui, we headed into Taipei city via the riverwalk. The riverwalk is really busy these days, especially on weekends by being crowded with bikers and families out walking for health and the scenery.
Coming into the end of the riverwalk, we went up onto Jhinshan Road and headed towards the National Palace Museum. Along the way, I realized that I had been there once before, 10 years ago when Peichi had taken me through that fantastic museum. Today was no different with stuffed streets and parking lots of buses, cars and tourists.
For a little extra excitement, we pushed up the hill before turning around to back track along the riverwalk stopping for a quick snack and then across Guandou Bridge.
Once back across Guandou Bridge, we headed west on 15 towards Bali for an easier ride back up onto the Linkou plateau by coming up 北51. Despite our easy up, we felt a nice finish with ice was called for with a final stop at 仙Q.
With the end of the ice and conversation, our ride closed with covering 74 pretty flat kilometers, as seen by the only 460 meters climbed.

Excellent pics, as always. One of these days we’ll have to go up to the top and over to Keelung.

Most definitely on going up and over! 2 over the northwest corner is quite beautiful.
I’ll be riding these hills more with Nathan on Sunday’s hopefully as we train for the December 5, 2009 NeverStop YangJin P Highway Challenge. See more at http://www.bikemap.net/route/343622.
With your riding Saturday for 中橫 decently, this wouldn’t be cake, but a good bit easier. I’ll be riding for speed though as I consider this a challenge and would like to post a 4-5 hour time.
