2/3/2010 – Kohn Kaen, Thailand
Though I’m back in Thailand, which by comparison is quite a bit further along than Laos, I just don’t feel like I fit in here like there. So that’s something else that makes you feel even more awkwards when missing your everyday life of home.
Of all the things I expected when traveling through Laos and Thailand, the least of all was my eating a Dairy Queen caramel almond Blizzard. This simply pleasurable treat literally turned my day and attitude around.
At some point in traveling, you want to come home and nothing is seeming to dissuade you. My attitude was further on the grumpy side from not finding something decent to eat besides endless noodles and overpriced Western fare.
Just what I would’ve given this morning for cold soymilk, danbing, scrambled eggs or Fruit Loops, I’m not sure. However, I knew I was finally tired of basic noodles and wanted something familiar.
And so, to the Kohn Kaen entrepreneur that opened a Dairy Queen, my humble thanks for being there to rescue me in a moment of depression and giving me strength to continue traveling on.
