Start walking and keep going
How far and long matter not
The journey is what I’m after
The adventure along the way is what drives me
to take another step

What waits over the hill?
As you steadily pace yourself up
a long, climbing side.
Will the view be of taller hills
or shall a valley be below?
How can we keep going up and down
along this path of the almost unknown?
A map from above would help,
but then how would we
climb up so high
as to look down
to be worthwhile.

Switchbacks give a chance to review
A path being taken to a difficult place
For wonder is why there was chosen
When so many ways are easier
By taking a softer path
To live a life so so
And you desire no more
That’s fine for lesser mortals
For the us rest
We’ll enjoy the beauty of the challenge
Without bickering to tarnish the results

Tiredness doesn’t convey the effort given
beyond more than ever expended before.
Looking up only tells that greater is
needed to finish what has been started.
Giving up is no option when the
end is closer than the beginning.
Yet more must be given for the
closing takes already done plus some.
At top, joy is subtle for
trembles and mind find relief.

The distance is fine,
but that climb,
oh what a climb.
At times, I felt my match,
yet it was only a challenge.
As the lore says “man or mouse.”
I’m no mouse!
I don’t care how the road curved,
my butt pained,
legs ached
or
such non sense.
All that mattered was the wind in my face,
a friend beside
and
a climb up [...]
