What waits over the hill?

by Michael Cannon on December 11, 2009 in Poetry

What waits over the hill?
As you steadily pace yourself up
a long, climbing side.
Will the view be of taller hills
or shall a valley be below?
How can we keep going up and down
along this path of the almost unknown?
A map from above would help,
but then how would we
climb up so high
as to look down
to be worthwhile.

I’d like to take a trip

by Michael Cannon on November 24, 2009 in Poetry

I’d like to take a trip,
that keeps going…
along
beyond
creeping
dangling
east
far
grand
higher
increasing
jokingly
kindly
longingly
more
north
on
practically
questionably
right
south
towards
unencumbered
vast
west
X
yonder
zany
Even then I want the end to keep pace
just out of reach as I go along.
So I know there’s always
something more to experience.
Forever in my life questing to know
more today than yesterday.
Hard to sleep with wonder of what’s missed,
yet emboldened by what’s to come.

Spiky hair leads to a rubbing,
sore feet do to.
I wonder how to get along better,
when someone is rubbing on you.

Behind closed lids

by Michael Cannon on September 30, 2009 in Poetry

Behind closed lids,
lives not lived,
happen as if they did.
All the stories in
fantasy or not,
take place.
Bringing to life of wonder.
Could it be?
